Reentry Council Requests Donations for New Campaign

November 08, 2023

The Wayne County Reentry Council is holding a campaign to collect undergarments for individuals who were formerly incarcerated.

The “Drop Your Drawers” campaign requests donations of new underwear for all sizes and gender. It will run until Dec. 1.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: the Atrium of WCC’s Wayne Learning Center (the building with the flag poles in front), United Way of Wayne County, the Goldsboro Police Department, the Wayne County Public Library, and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.

“This campaign is about providing an item that many people take for granted,” said WCC Vice President of Workforce Continuing Education and Community Engagement Renita Dawson.

“Underwear is one of the most requested items from individuals being released from jail or prison. For someone who only has the clothes on their back or has their entire wardrobe in a backpack, clean underwear can bring dignity to them and make a world of difference.”

The Wayne County Reentry Council partners with several organizations and agencies to provide resources for individuals who were released from prison, regardless of how long ago they were released. Resources may include educational training and job-search assistance, mental health support, food, and shelter.

Wayne Community College serves as the intermediary agency for the Wayne County Reentry Council.
